Bio Gas is produced from waste / bio-mass sources e.g. napier grass, cattle dung, agricultural wastes, etc through the process of anaerobic decomposition. Compressed Bio Gas (Bio-CNG) can be converted into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to be utilized as green renewable fuel used in vehicles.
In India The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas ( MoPNG) has launched SATAT Scheme on Compressed Bio Gas (Bio-CNG) to encourage entrepreneurs to set up Bio-CNG plants, produce & supply Bio-CNG to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for sale as automotive & industrial fuels. The initiative is aimed at providing a sustainable alternative fuel as a developmental effort that would benefit both vehicle-users as well as farmers and entrepreneurs.
The Government of India (GoI) has planned to set up 5000 operational Bio-CNG plants by the end of 2025. The GoI is promoting the setting up of Bio-CNG plants by classifying Bio-CNG plants as Priority Sector Agricultural Project.
The solid biomass, after bio-methanation, will be processed as biofertilizer for organic farming. The bio-fertilizer so obtained will be highly NPK enriched that will not only boost the revenues for farmers but will also improve the soil quality.
Considerable quantity of the CO2 being generated from the process will later be utilized for Dry Ice production and can be supplied to carbonated drinks manufactures with due percentage purity.
